Pixar’s Hawaiian Vacation

February 25, 2011 Leave a comment

Please stop sending me the link to the scans for Pixar’s “Hawaiian Vacation” short that will air before “Cars 2.” It’s not that I don’t appreciate it, but I just don’t know that concept art showing the “Toy Story” characters in Hawaiian gear is all that interesting.

I’m sure it will be great, but until some proper screencaps hit from the actual short, or a bit more is revealed, outside of Gary Rydstrom Directing, let’s focus on more important things.

Like when that damn “Hoodwinked” sequel is coming out.

Dreamworks’ “Megamind” hit on Bluray and DVD today, so go grab your copy!

I don’t want to brag, but I happen to know the brother of the Director of “Megamind,” which makes me the same loser I was before I typed that part about knowing the brother of a Director.

A brand new “Cars 2” TV spot is out, and it features bidet humor! Intrigued? You darn right you are. Just click the brand-spankin’-new image below to check the spot out.

If I can find a solid YouTube version that allows for embedding, I’ll update this post. In related news: If I can find a suitable replacement for “Gogurt,” I’ll update this post as well.

Dreamworks Animation Takes On Berkeley Breathed’s “Flawed Dogs”

If you spend more than 5 minutes with me on any given day, chances are that I’ll bring up Berkeley Breathed and what an influence he was on my own personal work. So I was thrilled to learn that Dreamworks Animation has picked up his “Flawed Dogs” book, and will be turning it into an animated feature!

From Variety:
DreamWorks Animation will adapt picture book and novel “Flawed Dogs,” by cartoonist Berkeley Breathed, for the bigscreen.
Story centers around a dachshund who must reclaim his place in the family after being wrongly exiled by a jealous show dog.

Breathed, who will exec produce the project, is best known for creating “Bloom County,” the 1980s comicstrip featuring Opus the Penguin.

DreamWorks Animation head of development Alex Schwartz and development exec Damon Ross will oversee the project.

“All my stories are sparked by a nugget of truth hiding in plain sight,” Berkeley said in a statement. “In this case, it’s that all animals dream… but only dogs dream of us.”

As you may or may not know, the very-soon-to-be-released (and somewhat questionable) “Mars Needs Moms” is also based on one of Breathed’s books:

I’m really looking forward to seeing what a top-notch animation house like Dreamworks Animation can do with “Dogs,” and I’m hoping this finally leads to a Bloom County movie.

Two new “Cars 2” characters to check out, complete with fancy bios!

“Sir Miles Axlerod is a former oil baron who has sold off his fortune, converted himself into an electric vehicle and has devoted his life to finding the renewable, clean-burning energy source of the future—ultimately discovering what he believes is the fuel everyone should be using. Axlerod is also the car behind the World Grand Prix, a three-country race he created that attracts the world’s top athletes—but it’s really an excuse to show off his new wonder-fuel, Allinol.”

“Nigel Gearsley from Warwickshire, England, is an Aston Martin DB9R racer bearing #9. He got his start racing the Speed Hill Climb—a unique, completely uphill race through the Aston Hill Mountain Area that his family has run for generations. Nigel’s racing career has been anything but an uphill challenge, as he’s won nearly every start in the past few years on the Grand Touring Sports Car circuit, including a string of podiums at Nurburgring and Le Mans. His cool British refinement makes him an imposing presence on the World Grand Prix courses.”

Stitch Kingdom got their hands on the below image from “Cars 2” showing that at least a few of the Radiator Springs gang will be making the world tour with Lightning.

Still no Sally though…

Maybe she’s off on a “Thelma and Louise” style bender with Bo Peep from “Toy Story.”

Hulu has posted an exclusive Rango clip that I can’t embed on this site, thanks to some crazy WordPress policy. So you’ll have to go the extra mile and click on the image below to watch it.

With each clip/trailer that gets released for this film, I get more excited. If this keeps up, I may just smile.
